What the heck is a flagel, you ask?
As the name suggests, it’s a flattened bagel.
They really are better than bagels. Here’s why:
Superior mouthfeel
Because flagels have more crust and less bready innards than a standard-issue bagel, they offer a crunchier, more satisfying texture. (Also: mouthfeel!)
Increased surface area
This allows you to actually spread the cream cheese instead of piling it into a giant, ghastly clot that oozes from the edges and the center. It also guarantees you more onion, garlic, sesame seed and/or poppy (i.e., “everything”), depending on your choice of flagel.
Ease of access
The reduced height provides some relief for small-mouthed humans, who need no longer strain their jaws chomping down on those towering, unwieldy bagels.
Guilt-free eating (however unjustified)
Despite its carb-conscious origins, calorie and carb counts are essentially the same since you’re consuming about the same volume as a regular bagel, but a flagel just feels lighter. It’s certainly not a diet bagel, but it tastes like one — and that might be good enough.
